Resilience and Resistance

When the state of the world feels as though it is continuing to spin out of control, and the acts of bigotry, meanness and dishonesty are everywhere in the headlines...
How do we maintain our equilibrium? What actions can we take that counter the calculated cruelty and greed that appears to have been set loose to roam our land?
I was raised on the front pew of a Baptist church where the language of Christ - loving kindness – was spoken. Although I no longer sit on that pew, I have lived my life from those core principles.
But what I am seeing now – while it has the outer trappings of being “Christian” - is some of the most unchristian, dishonest, grasping actions possible starting from the highest office in the land. It’s poisonous propaganda spreading like a plague, corrupting the national character of those willfully ignorant to its blatant lies.
How do we hold our deep disappointment in this situation and spend more time cultivating joy in our lives?
How do we justify taking the time for connection and happiness when we feel as though we really should be on red alert?
Or perhaps in constant battle with the evil all around us?
How do we deal with the guilt that we are not doing enough?
It really is complex - this is not the world I spent the last 50 years working for – co-creating and building - so that my children and grandchildren could have a bright future.
Despite all my loving and healing actions across all these years I have moments when I feel powerless these days…so what is to be done about it?
For me, my sense of powerlessness is an impetus for taking action. I create the change that I can and add it to the collective resistance for a positive effect.
This means I go out of my way to find news that contains factual information about the intelligent, positive, integrous actions still being taken - and support that. We need to join with other like-minded people who are defending our democracy.
I regularly step back, slow down and look at the whole situation, not just the “Breaking News” headlines.
We donate to multiple organizations including those that are engaged in fact-based reporting about how to resist the hate - and counter the propaganda that is constantly feeding the ignorant among us.
We walk and eat well, create community gatherings of celebration right along with regularly picking up trash along our lake and stream - caring for and healing the world in any way we can - wherever we can – however we can – in small and large ways.
We love and support our families and those around us - sharing meals, laughter and the dismay about what is happening out in the world.
We enjoy the simple pleasures of home cooking, gardening, celebrating birthdays, and simply loving each other.
We are saying by our actions, “We remain at the helm of our peace of mind, our joy, our calm. No one can take that from us.”
Only we can maintain our resilience in the face of what is happening.
So, let’s keep these practices sacred – sheltered from the outside world: sharing a laugh, sharing meals with friends or family, planning a birthday or a wedding.
By protecting our own personal peace, we are not giving up. Quite the opposite – we are resisting at a far deeper energetic level than the noise around us.
If you would like to join our community practice of Grounding and Filling for 15 minutes on M-W-F at 8am ET you are most welcome to do so – it is done on a donation basis, so do not let your purse strings stop you.
Keep your inner energy reservoir full to meet the world and find your joy within it!
