As the election approaches, and the Middle East crisis deepens, I notice that the external world around me feels much more chaotic.
Much of the news headlines are designed to grab your attention but have little truth to them and are meant to create discord and fear – and more anxiety about the future.
And the words and actions taken by certain politicians seem like a power grab, headed down roads that lead nowhere except to even more fear and anxiety.
The latest example goes something like this. “Lock your doors and watch your pets or they will be eaten by people who don’t look like you and certainly must be dangerous.” This kind of thing is bigotry and fear mongering at its worst.
What actions can we – as intelligent, responsible citizens – do to help the world right itself at this point in history?
Some of you are taking outer actions – donating time at the polls or elsewhere so fair elections happen everywhere.
Or donating money to those who speak the truth.
Or writing and reporting about the truth of what is happening around us.
Or helping others know how to stay clear headed in order to better discern the truth.
I am in this last group – sharing the inner skills I have practiced for decades that have taught me how to stay steady, calm with clear discernment in times like these.
It is one of these skills I want to share with you today.

What can you do in the meantime to keep calm and your thinking clear?
Do your best to limit the time spent in front of all news feeds, and choose carefully what you listen to and watch. I use those that offer me accurate data and information that sits right in my gut and my whole being.
