Three Ways to Feel Joy...

We are living in very interesting times—there is so much stress, injustice, and pain all around us in the world.

So much so that it is easy to forget who we are at a Soul level, as we move through our day caught in fear and anxiety, or outrage from the stress, trauma and drama of it all.

It can be easy to forget how to return to our Soul’s joy—to the light within each one of us.

I want to share with you the three tools I use in times like these – when challenges are all around us – crowding out the joy, gratitude and creativity that is there awaiting our return.

No. 1 – Awareness

When I find my mind in a loop of anxious thoughts or my body unable to relax because I feel outraged by something, I use my time-tested practices to open the door to a deeper awareness of who I am at a Soul level.

What do my practices look like?

  • I take a long walk - daily or whenever possible - and breathe deeply as I go.
  • I journal until the muddy swirl of emotions are out on the paper in front of me. As the mud settles and the water clears, so does my thinking.
  • I get regular bodywork or touch of some kind that is both physically and emotionally nurturing.
  • I talk things over with a trusted friend.

Think about what clears your head and your body so you can access your deeper Soul awareness.

Make a list and post it somewhere you look regularly, so when your thinking gets clouded, the reminders are there pointing you in the right direction.

The time to do your practices is when you need them. Challenging times are not when you should drop the things that help you return home to yourself - and please don't take up over-eating, drinking, drugging and other life-sucking activities (although they may look tempting, LOL.)

No. 2 – Trust

When you are feeling really challenged about something in your life it can be hard to call on this attribute of your Soul—Trusting that you can find yourself again, trusting that you know the way home, trusting that you can call in what you need to reclaim who you are... All of these are important to remember.

Take a moment now and think about actions you would be taking if you were calling in the attribute of Trust.

  • Imagine what it would feel like in your body to Trust the moment.
  • What would it feel like to Trust that your path is opening in front of you as you go?
  • Trust that you will find your path home to who you are at that Soul level.

No. 3 – Curiosity

When you cultivate your Curiosity - this pivotal Attribute of your Soul, all manner of creativity emerges.

Words and ideas flow. Actions follow. You feel open and energized.

Responding to adversity with Curiosity allows us to stay empowered, especially with the extreme situations many are facing in the world right now.

When your powerful actions come naturally, you can meet your world in a whole new way – learning from it every step of the way.

Finding My Joy

Recently I was confronted with a huge personal challenge.

I was frustrated, angry, deeply hurt, and then completely drained by it.

Initially I felt confused and lost - this was definitely new territory for me.

Then I remembered these three powerful tools.

I recommitted to them on a daily basis.

As my days unfolded, I walked with the issue, talking it over with Trusted confidents.

I journaled everyday as the events took place.

I walked more, journaled more and stayed as grounded as I could in order to remain Curious about how it would all turn out.

To my delight, over time my power has returned.

My thoughts are clearer each day as I write from the place of my Soul.

And – an unforeseen outcome arrived: My joy has returned!
