The Good News and the Bad News

Cherry blossoms in Washington, DC

Cherry blossoms in Washington, DC

Spring has arrived in northern Virginia and the cherry blossoms are finally in bloom. The flower scent is filling the air…and so is the pollen according to my poor husband. I have gotten to walk all the way around my lake twice in the last two days and to me it is positively intoxicating. The air has a cool freshness and yet a smooth velvet quality to my nostrils. The bird singing has been my constant companion as I walk. I imagine they are all sending out musical messages to their potential mates that the time is nigh.

And with this harsh winter and late spring has come a double layer of pollen. The trees that would have bloomed earlier got delayed due to the snow storms and cold weather, and the trees that normally bloom now are all tossing out pollen like confetti on a parade according to all my friends who get allergies. Ah, life – and what it can throw at us – Enjoy!
