Joan was moving strongly towards a life in the academic world when she received a BA degree in English Language and Literature from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, in 1974, followed in 1976, with a Master’s Degree in Library Science, with a focus on university libraries.

Life, however, had something else in mind. In 1979, inspired by her new husband, chiropractor Bob Rose, she began to explore the field of wholistic health. Interested in Applied Kinesiology, Joan’s first certification was as a Touch for Health Instructor.

Wanting more, she then took an apprenticeship training course in Massage Therapy. Later, Joan became interested in Craniosacral Therapy. She became technique certified in 1995 through the Upledger Institute. Joan and her husband worked together for 36 years, offering Craniosacral Therapy and Chiropractic.

Joan discovered Suzanne Scurlock’s Healing from the Core curriculum in 2016. The training Joan has had through this program has allowed deep personal healing to occur. It has greatly expanded and honed her communication skills. In her presence you will find warmth, acceptance and steadiness.

Joan is strengthened and sustained by working on her farmland, which she preserved in a Conservation Easement in 2003. There you will find her digging out Canadian thistle, stickweed and jimsonweed, replacing them with native plants and trees. Working the soil, seeing an expanse of sky, and hearing the wind as it rushes across the fields bring her great joy.
